Clancee Pearce has described veteran Fremantle defender Michael Johnson as the team’s general.

Pearce, who was among the best on ground in Freo's 68-point win over Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday, said Johnson led the team superbly from the backline.

“Michael Johnson is a real general down there,” he said.

“He really directs us and sets us up from the backline.”

Johnson and defensive comrade Luke McPharlin had 20 marks between them in a dominant display.

The pair were nearly impenetrable, thwarting many of Melbourne’s forward thrusts.

Johnson and McPharlin are ranked sixteenth and third, respectively, for total marks in the AFL this season.
