Fremantle is fast earning a reputation as a team with a brigade of lethal kicks.

Senior coach Ross Lyon says he has been surprised with the number of penetrating kicks among Fremantle’s midfielders and backs.

Speaking on 6PR Sports Today on Monday, Lyon said Hawthorn had set the standard for accurate and penetrating kicks in the league.

“Hawthorn have set the bar with efficiency and kicking skills, we are chasing them,” he said.

“We have some really good kicks in our team, more than I thought we had actually.”

Fremantle’s disposal efficiency is a competition high of 79.3 per cent, so far this season.

Lyon said despite the impressive stat, there was room to improve.

“We are from perfect,” he said.

“We have really good distributors in our backline and through the midfield.

Midfield mix crucial

(Garrick) Ibbotson, (Paul) Duffield, (Lee) Spurr(Cam) Sutcliffe and (Michael) Johnson are very good kicks.

“As are (David) Mundy, (Stephen) HillDanyle (Pearce) and (Nick) Suban.

“If it’s a noticeable improvement, we’ll take it.”
