Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says being an AFL coach is a privilege and a great job to have.

Speaking ahead of his 200th game as a senior coach on Saturday against Essendon at Domain Stadium, Lyon said it was a special job to have.

“The tough part is overrated, it’s a really good job,” he said.

“It’s not that hard, you just work hard and have some really good players.”

David Mundy was full of praise for Ross Lyon

Lyon said much of his enjoyment came from the players and staff he had worked with at Fremantle and St Kilda.

“I’ve had two playing lists that try really hard and with enough unique talent to get it done,” he said.

“I like working with young people, you see them develop themselves on and off the field.

“Winning is important but so is enjoying the process.”

Lyon said the milestone was not something he focused on or considered much this week.

“The past is irrelevant, I’m squarely focused on the game in front of me,” he said.

“’I’m in a privileged position and I take it very seriously.”

Fremantle play Essendon at Domain Stadium Saturday 9 May.
