Not many clubs boast the ruck talents of Fremantle, with players such Jon Griffin waiting in the wings.

The 201cm ruckman has had a solid year with Peel Thunder in the WAFL after managing just one AFL game last year, following a knee reconstruction in 2013.

With Aaron Sandilands closer to the end than the beginning of his career, Griffin looks set to become a more regular face in the AFL side in coming years.

He’s has played 69 AFL games and came to Freo from Adelaide in 2012.

Fans will be happy to hear that Griffin is fit, healthy and firing.

“Physically I feel great,” he said.

“I did a full pre-season, I haven’t had any issues with my knee and I’m feeling really confident.”

Griffin is learning from one of the best in the business, in four-time All Australian Aaron Sandilands.

“I sit down and talk about my game with him and he’s a great tool to have at the footy club,” he said.

“Sandi is a mentor to me.

“His credentials speak for himself.”

Griffin has eased well into the season for Peel, who have four wins from six matches.

“We’re playing some good footy and started well,” he said.

Griffin is not a known goal scorer, having kicked 18 goals in the AFL, but admits he likes to grab a mark inside the 50.

“I haven’t taken my opportunities yet, I’ve taken a few marks down there and had a few shots,” he said.

“It was good last week when I could get forward and I love kicking a goal.”
