Match report: Freo holds off brave Bulldogs

Johnson, who starred with 29 disposals and 14 marks, was pivotal in the final quarter, taking several crucial grabs in the back fifty.

He told Fox Footy the players had spoken about how the Bulldogs would keep coming.

“We knew the Bulldogs would come at us,” he said.

“They pushed and pushed.

“It’s a good win on the road.”

Johnson said Fremantle positioned an extra defender in the backline in the final term to curb the Bulldogs attack.

“Late in the last quarter we positioned a plus one (in defence),” he said.

“I was lucky enough to take a couple of clunks.”
