Experienced midfielder David Mundy says Freo will need to lift its work rate off the ball to beat the Gold Coast next week after a poor performance against Richmond.

Fremantle lost by 27 points to a rampant Richmond on Friday night at Domain Stadium.

Mundy was hard around the stoppages in slippery conditions, landing eight tackles.

But he said Freo’s first quarter pressure was not up to standard, after the Tigers burst out of the blocks and kicked eight goals.

“The first half was really disappointing,” he said.

“We were quite poor, away from the contest we really struggled to get a hold of their ball movement.

“We lacked a hard approach early, our work rate and our attack on the football was poor and second rate.”

Richmond led by as much as 49 points in the second quarter.

“In terms of scoreboard pressure they were exceptional earlier and hardly missed,” Mundy said.

“Their ball movement was first class, they were very, very good.”
