Following Fremantle’s training session on Wednesday, captain David Mundy said the intensity had risen for Freo, nearly two weeks away from their first NAB Challenge match.

“The intensity certainly has gone up,” Mundy said.

“We’re getting into a bit more match simulation.

“For a couple weeks now we’ve been playing 18 on 18 which is really good fun.”

Match simulation needs as many healthy bodies as possible, and with recent additions to the training squad of Shane Yarran, Zac Clarke and Nat Fyfe, Mundy said it was fantastic having them back on the track.

“It’s fantastic having our rehab guys coming back in and complementing the guys who’ve been training all preseason,” he said.

Mundy began training with short message to the playing group, and said the responsibility of the captaincy is sitting well with him.

“It’s going really well,” he said.

“Being in the leadership group for a number of years has been a really good step up.

“It taught me a lot of the skills that I’ve needed and I’ve certainly had a bit of help from ‘Pav’ (Pavlich) and the other guys.”

The skipper spent a solid portion of practice teaching younger midfielders the nuances of stoppage work, a task he takes seriously given the focus on rotations in senior football.

“You never know who’s going to be coming in,” he said.

“We have to compliment the whole team with everyone knowing the structure and how we want to play.

“The more that everyone knows, the better we’ll be.”

The relatively private Mundy also took on a more public persona on Wednesday, having his day documented by the official Fremantle Dockers Snapchat account.

“It was interesting,” he laughed.

“Getting a phone in your face first thing in the morning when you wake up, it was fun.”
