Fremantle Dockers halfback Tommy Sheridan said that while the Western Bulldogs speed and unpredictability present a challenge, he’s benefitted greatly from his experiences so far in his career.

The 22-year-old defender has played 38 games for the club and established himself across halfback in Freo’s starting-22 with a 19 game breakout season in 2015.

“I’ve played enough games now to have played on most types of blokes,” Sheridan said.

“The quick, the strong, the smart, you just have to adjust on the run and see who you’re playing on.

“The Bulldogs have plenty of height and speed.”

Lyon in it for the long haul

While Sheridan said he’d likely match up with the Bulldogs’ faster forwards, he admitted that in the modern game, flexibility continues to be a key component of defence.

“You’ll be playing on all sorts of opponents during the game,” he said.

“We’ll all do our homework on the individuals we’ll be playing on and attack when we get the opportunity."

Playing on opponents of differing sizes and abilities is made all the easier due to the cohesion of Freo’s defenders, according to Sheridan.

“Our back six isn’t really a back six at all,” he said.

“There are a lot of guys that float through there and we work quite nicely together.”
