Fremantle midfielder Nat Fyfe has undergone successful surgery on the fractured fibula in his left leg, according to Freo sports science manager Jason Weber.

“Nathan had surgery today, and we’ve been in contact with the surgeon and the procedure has gone really well,” Weber said.

“They’re very happy with it, and we look forward to getting him back toward the end of this week.”

Michael Johnson also had surgery after suffering a knee/hamstring injury against Carlton on Sunday, Weber said.

“Michael Johnson is undergoing surgery as we speak, we’ll be able to give an update later on, once the results come through.”

Weber said Fremantle captain David Mundy is nearing a return from a calf injury, and should be available for selection if he continues to train strongly.

“David has trained really strongly this morning,” he said.

“We expect him to be in training with the AFL squad on Thursday and available for match committee from there.”

Second year players Connor Blakely (toe) and Ethan Hughes (hamstring) played for Peel Thunder after missing games due to injury, and Weber said both impressed in their returns.

“Both (Blakely and Hughes) had really good, running games from my perspective, and they certainly pulled up well and trained again this morning.”

Weber also said mature-age recruit Shane Yarran is nearing his first game of the year since suffering a knee injury in the WAFL Grand Final last year.

“Shane has had an extremely strong couple of weeks,” he said.

“Obviously he had a significant knee injury at the back end of last year and has worked really hard to get himself up to AFL standard.

“He’ll have a training run on Thursday, then match committee and we’ll go from there.”
