On the full
Both Freo and GWS hugged the boundary on Saturday night with both teams kicking it out on a number of occassions. The second quarter was an example of this as three of Freo’s defensive rebounds were kicked out on the full, with the third returning back into the Giants forward line for a Rory Lobb mark and goal.

Disposal edge
Fremantle started the game strongly, finding the ball more consistently and leading the disposal count 102-76 at quarter time. But it was one way traffic after that as GWS got on top and finished the game leading Freo in disposals 362 to 324.

Giant 10 minutes
Between the 16 and 26 minutes mark of the second quarter, the Giants kicked five unanswered goals. The buffer created by the 10 minute flurry held steady throughout the rest of the game, with Freo running out of time to close the gap even further in the final quarter.

Defensive rebounding
While Freo had four more inside 50 entries than GWS, the Giants were able to counter attack at a higher rate. Heath Shaw had the most defensive rebounds of any player on the field with nine, Adam Kennedy had five, while no Freo player had any more than three.

Pearce backs it up
Young defender Alex Pearce continued his good form on Saturday night. After keeping Taylor Walker goalless against Adelaide, Pearce backed it up by keeping the dangerous Jeremy Cameron to just eight touches and a solitary goal.

Neale’s contested football
Neale displayed his ball winning abilities yet again. The Freo midfielder finished the game with 33 disposals, the most of any player on the field. Neale also finished with 25 contested possessions, only four away from tying the all-time record in a single game held by Patrick Dangerfield and Josh Kennedy.
