Teammate Ryan Nyhuis praised Clarke's performance.

"He really stepped up for us from the start and delivered," he said.

"It starts from the midfield so he really helped us out."

Darcy Tucker and Michael Apeness also emerged as contenders for Fremantle selection.

Tucker gathered 29 possessions and reeled in eight marks, while Apeness racked up 13 disposals and kicked two goals.

Clarke's early ruck dominance and Tucker's agility around the packs helped give Peel a 16-point quarter-time lead.

The Thunder quickly got into the groove during the second quarter and goals to Apeness and Josh Deluca extended the margin.

The third quarter was an arm wrestle as the Sharks fought their way back into the match, but strong performances from defenders Tanner Smith and Matthew Uebergang ensured the Thunder kept their noses in front.

The away side was rarely threatened in the final term and eventually ran out 11.12 (78) to 7.10 (52) winners.

Nyhuis said the victory gave the Thunder plenty of confidence, especially given it opened up a two-game break over sixth-placed East Perth.

"We had a lot of young players today who made their debut for Peel," he said.

"We’ve got Subiaco next week, so the win definitely gives us the confidence to head into the game against them."

Anthony Morabito was a solid performer in his return from a hamstring injury, gathering 21 possessions.

Other notable players included Deluca (19 possessions, two goals), Uebergang (17 possessions) and Mzungu (27 possessions).
