What was the most impressive part of that Ross?
We came here to compete and we came here to improve, and we feel like we have done that tonight. So we tick those two boxes.

Scratchy start, a little bit of a concern there, but we fought in really well. Some good signs with our ball movement, stuff we have been working hard on. A lot of things went right, so that was pleasing.

You must be happy with Taberner’s game?
That’s been coming for a while, he has been working really hard. We gave him plenty of opportunity. The forwards worked really hard, they had some good supply so yes he took his opportunity.

Was it his best game?
I think that’s as many goals as he has kicked. So yes.

Talking points from Lions win

The opposition has been a bit weaker the past two weeks, but do you think you have turned a corner?
You just play with what is put in front of you. We feel our ball use is really starting to come on, we have worked hard on that. There are some good signs. There are bigger challenges. We play Port Adelaide next week and they have come off a close loss so they will have a sting in the tail. We will know more next week to be truthful.

How did you turn it around when Brisbane were up 18-1 at the start?
The clearances were poor early. It was 1-6. (Mitch) Robinson was getting a fair bit of ball around the ground and we weren’t able to find them and put much pressure on them. I think we tightened up, reduced their time and space and started winning the clearances a lot better. Our ball movement, when we did get opportunities, we were quite effective with it. That all combined to balance us up and then we continued on with it after the break.

You must be delighted with the young guys… Weller, Blakely, Tucker?
Yes they were pleasing. Crozier’s continued to blossom at half back. Certainly Tucker, a first year player. I think at half time Tucker, Weller and Blakely were learning a lot about possession stats and they are showing really good signs. Tanner Smith has worked hard for an opportunity, he has had some issues to work through with his body, so he is competing, and (there's also) Taberner. We will continue to invest but at the end of the day birth certificates are out once you run down the race, you are their to compete and represent your club.

Have they come along a bit quicker than you thought?
I don’t put a timeline on them. We just work hard, try and take care of the next moment and try and improve. At this stage, we are doing that.

What does a couple of wins do for the group and in particular the young guys?
I haven’t thought about that too much. Clearly they are buoyant. To come interstate and win, Brisbane have certainly been a tough proposition up here – until three quarter time against Hawthorn they had their noses level. So they  have really challenged a few up here.

It’s still a meaningful win for us. They get to travel together. Confidence comes from action. Action builds confidence. So they will get some confidence and an understanding of what we are asking them to do – if they can execute that it’s going to have them in pretty good stead I would imagine.

The two ruckman, Zac Clarke and Jack Hannath, what did you make of them?
Again, a bit scratchy early but they worked into it.

Were you happy with Michael Barlow?
Yes, he went to (Daniel) Rich most of the night and I think that Michael probably won that battle.

Any injuries?
Nothing significant.
