Key forward Matthew Pavlich is set to return for Fremantle’s clash with Port Adelaide on Saturday.

Pavlich missed Freo’s Round 12 clash with Brisbane due to a groin injury but is expected to be available for selection, according to Freo high performance manager Jason Weber.

“Pavlich carried the groin (soreness) into the round 11 clash and got through okay but we had some soreness there that we didn’t really want to push through (against Brisbane),” he said.

“He’s trained well over the weekend, trained well today and we expect him to be fully available this week.”

In other good news, Weber said mature-age recruit Shane Yarran is set to return to the WAFL after working hard to recover from a calf injury.

“Shane was cleared (heading) into the weekend and trained fully with the WAFL boys and we expect him to be in full training and available for selection.”

Weber said defender Anthony Morabito is set to miss the next two weeks due to an ankle injury.

“Unfortunately Anthony in his last game (against Subiaco) was caught awkwardly in a tackle and damaged his syndesmosis,” he said.

“He’ll be about a fortnight, but he’s back in the gym and moving and very optimistic about getting back.”

Ruckman Jonathon Griffin will miss the next two to three weeks with a hamstring strain, which will likely see him sidelined through Freo's Round 15 bye.

“On the back of the round 11 clash against Essendon, Jon pulled up with some hamstring tightness during the game,” he said.

“Unfortunately that turned out to be a small strain so it’s going to be about two to three weeks before we can get him back in.”

Weller's interstate assistance

Key position player Sean Hurley is also nearing a return after an extended stint in rehab due to a hip injury.

The Irish rookie had surgery earlier this year, but Weber said his impressive approach to his rehab has him on track to return to WAFL in the coming weeks.

“Sean had some significant issues with his hip that have been addressed surgically,” he said.

“He’s rehabbed really strongly, he’s out with the main group and we hope to get him back on the field playing within the next fortnight.”

While the WAFL competition had a bye last week, Weber said the Freo-listed players for Peel Thunder were put through their paces and were feeling good heading into this week’s clash with league leaders South Fremantle.

“They trained really strongly and we’re looking forward to a good week and back into the WAFL this weekend.”
