Nat Fyfe has returned to the club following surgery on Friday to remove plates from the broken leg he sustained against Carlton in round five at Domain Stadium.

Fremantle high performance manager Jason Weber said the Brownlow Medallist had already begun his rehabilitation program.

“He was back walking around at the game on Sunday and he’s been back in the gym this morning,” Weber said.

“We’re looking forward to advancing his rehab from here.”

First-year midfielder Harley Balic took part in full team training last week for the first time since arriving at the club following surgery on his injured wrist.

Balic was touted to go in the first round of last year’s NAB AFL draft, but complications with the injury limited his progress.

In the Mix: Experienced campaigners stake claim

Weber said the 19-year-old – who was eventually selected with pick 38 – was ready to increase his output ahead of the preseason.

“Harley’s (wrist injury) has really kept him out of competitive football drills” Weber said.

“He’s been able to successfully get past that this past week and he’s into full training, so hopefully we’ll see his time with the football increase from here.”

Tall utility Tanner Smith also returned to full training this week after injuring his hamstring against Port Adelaide, while Aaron Sandilands and Hayden Ballantyne pulled up well following Sunday’s loss to West Coast.

Weber said Sandilands experienced nothing untoward after missing 15 matches with fractured ribs and a punctured lung.

“There was nothing there that we wouldn’t expect (after playing) his first game in some time and his ribs did really well,” Weber said.
