In a coup for the club, the Fremantle Dockers snared the man at the top of their wish-list in exciting key defender Griffin Logue.

And the feeling is mutual for the local lad who becomes the fourth Swan Districts product on the Fremantle Dockers list alongside Michael Walters, Connor Blakely and Ethan Hughes.

“I’m still processing what’s just happened, but it’s awesome, I can’t wait really,” said Logue in the minutes after he was drafted.

“I always felt that (Fremantle’s recruiters) were really friendly to talk to and great, and I got along with them really well and was able to be myself around them.

“That was probably the biggest thing. And they gave me just a good vibe about it but I never thought it would come to this.”

And Logue was thrilled when he was told that he was at the top of Freo’s list.

“That’s just music to my ears really,” Logue said.

“It’s just so great to hear. Just to know that there’s a place for me at the club…I’ll take that with open arms to be honest.”

And Logue said he could talk at length about the Freo players who impress him the most.

“Obviously the wicked one to watch is someone like Nat Fyfe,” Logue said.

“And I reckon Hayden Ballantyne is dangerous once he gets going and Tommy Sheridan is someone who’s really exciting to watch.

“I could go on for days to be honest.”

Being close with Swan’s teammate Nathan Blakely, brother of Connor, Logue said he had more than a handful of important people in his life who were excited to see him land at Freo.

“My whole family’s excited to know I’ll be staying in WA,” Logue said.

“And I’ve got about ten friends that are dead-set Freo supporters, so they’re frothing at the moment!”

Logue comes to Freo after an impressive draft combine, finishing tied for first in the beep test and running vertical right foot jump, as well as finishing tied for fourth in the standing vertical jump, fifth in the 3km time trial and seventh in the repeat sprint.

The former Guilford Grammar student boasts an impressive pedigree as the nephew of former Perth Wildcats star Andrew Vlahov. The four-time Olympian with the Boomers was just one of many people Logue credited with helping him realise his AFL dream.

“Obviously the biggest one to thank is my parents,” said Logue

“But also Geoff Valentine (director of football at Guildford Grammar) who helped me when I was much younger in high-school leading into now and even my uncle Andrew was massive in helping me and guiding me.”

“Obviously recently most of my thanks goes to (Swan Districts Senior Coach) Greg Harding, who’s taken me under his wing and helped me through the whole process.”
