As the date of Fremantle’s captaincy vote nears, Tommy Sheridan has highlighted the importance the occasion plays in delivering a strong leadership group.

At the vote, each team member is given five votes to allocate on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis.

While the leadership group as a whole is tasked with pushing the standards in training and performance, Sheridan recognises that a lot of external interest is focused on the result of the captaincy.

“Obviously there’s a lot of hype from the outside on who the captain is going to be, as it’s the time of year that we do a vote count,” Sheridan said.

“It’s internally driven, but I think what we’re missing the importance of the whole leadership group, which will also be decided on that day.”

“That’s a group that we really value, and inside that group will be a captain.”
