Fremantle member Gary Duffield was determined to travel from the United States to Perth in order to attend the final Carlton Draught Derby in the home and away season at Domain Stadium on Sunday.

Documenting his trip via social media, the Freo fan had to travel 18,604 km's on three connecting flights and on a strict timeline in order to get to the game by bounce down.

fremantlefc.com.au have compiled some of the best bits from his long journey home.

OK Fremantle Dockers I'm ready to pack and find an airport. Qantas App says DC to LA is on time, LA to Melbourne is on time, Melbourne to Perth is on time.... Hope I can remember where I left the car.

Duffield knew it was going to be tough but a little price reduction and some encouragement from his wife Yvonne gave him the motivation to make the game.

While waiting for his flight from Washington to Los Angeles, Duffield got some reassurance that he would make the game in time from a "current President."

So Mr Trump. Will the Freo Dockers win and Gary get there for bounce down?. @qantas

Everything seemed to be going to plan. Duffield arrived early, not to miss his flight, and enjoyed his last moments in the US before his long trip home...or so he thought.

Duffield needed everything to go right and a weather delay definitely threw a spanner in his plan.

After accepting defeat and realising he wouldn't be getting home in time for the Carlton Draught Derby his wife offered no sympathy.

Duffield is still in transit and on his way home but sadly this passionate fan won't be there to see Fremantle take on West Coast at Domain Stadium on Sunday at 2.40pm WST.

Let's get the win for Gary!
