Fremantle fell by 12 points to GWS at Spotless Stadium on Saturday.

Here are some of the key stats and stories from the contest.

Another one that got away
In a season notorious for its unpredictability, Fremantle once again ran close to pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the year.
Just like they did against Geelong in round 14, a young Freo lineup letslide a golden opportunity to shock the AFL.
Since the bye, Fremantle has let three games slip in the final term.
Round 14 v Geelong: Led by 13 at 3QT, lost by 2
Round 15 v St Kilda: Led by 5 at 3QT, lost by 9
Round 19 v GWS: Led by 15 at 3QT, lost by 12

Live and learn
A part of Freo’s last-quarter fadeaways could come down to youth and inexperience, with Fremantle continuing to give their younger players a chance. In rounds 14, 15 and 19 respectively, Freo fielded the third, fifth and fourth youngest sides the round.
Nineteen-year-old Sean Darcy, who has played six straight games as Freo’s lone-specialist ruckman since his debut in round 14, appeared to tire late against the Giants – with GWS winning the hitouts 19-8 in the final term.

Won and lost in eight minutes
The Giants’ domination at the stoppages in the final term proved crucial.
Fremantle saw their 15-point lead turn into a 12-point deficit in the space of just eight minutes at the start of the fourth term. A determined GWS came out of the blocks with their top-four chances on the line, winning the opening 11 clearances and kicking four goals to none in that period.

Ryan bounces back
Luke Ryan responded in the best way possible after a week on the sidelines due to his omission for not meeting team standards. Ryan led both sides in a handful of statistical categories, including marks (14), rebound 50s (8) and tackles (6).
Touted as a speculative fantasy pick at the start of the season, Ryan proved to be a bargain with 138 AFL fantasy points - 18 more than the next nearest teammate, Nat Fyfe, and 34 more than the next nearest Giant, Stephen Coniglio.

Is it Tucker’s time?
In his second season, utility Darcy Tucker is continuing his rise at AFL level.
Tucker was Fremantle’s top pick at no.27 in the 2015 draft and put in one of his best performances in his 27th game in Freo colours.
Tucker led Freo for inside 50s with six, and recorded career high numbers in disposals (23), kicks (16), marks (11) and metres gained (582.2).

Ethan’s huge goal
Some things are worth the wait and this was certainly the case with Ethan Hughes’ first career goal in his 20th AFL game.
The speedy defender unleashed a bomb on the run from inside the centre square to put Freo up by 15-points late in the third term.
Hughes’ goal wasn’t the only big moment if Freo’s highlight reel. Hayden Crozier’s grab on the shoulders of 207cm Rory Lobb and Hayden Ballantyne’s weaving goal in the final term earned nominations for the Mark and Goal of the Year respectively.

Fyfe builds and builds
In his comeback year from a broken leg, Nat Fyfe is continuing to show signs of a return to his Brownlow-winning best.
The Freo captain put up 19 contested possessions, six marks, five clearances, five tackles and two goals – a game that more than justifies Freo signing the 25-year-old in for another six seasons.
