Young Freo duo agree to contract extensions

Brennan Cox has agreed to a two-year contract extension, committing to the club until the end of season 2020. Brenna Cox has agreed to a contract extension which will see him through to 2020.

Fremantle have secured the services of two emerging talents with Brennan Cox and Ed Langdon agreeing to contract extensions.

The young duo have both agreed to two-year contract extensions, with Cox extending his 2018 contract to the end of the 2020 season and Langdon committing to the club until the end of season 2019.

Cox, who was selected at pick number 41 in the 2016 National Draft and debuted in round 12 this season, was one of seven debutants for the club in 2017, including four first year players.

General manager of list management Brad Lloyd said the club had been pleased with Cox’s development in his first year at Fremantle.

“Brennan turned 19 on Sunday and came across from South Australia in last year’s draft,” Lloyd said.

“He’s shown some strong attributes in the football he’s played.

“He is a good size and a great athlete and he’s shown a high level of composure when he’s played at senior level, so we’re really excited about the role he can play on our list for years to come.”

Twenty-one-year-old Langdon was taken at pick 54 in the 2014 National Drat and Lloyd said he will play a key role for the team in the coming years.

Langdon recently underwent knee surgery to repair an injured PCL, which has seen him sidelined from AFL football since round 11 this season.

“Ed has an elite running capacity and in the senior games he’s played over the last couple of years he’s shown the ability to find the ball and impact games in key moments,” Lloyd said.

“We’re thrilled to see Ed continue at the club and look forward to watching him develop and become an important member of the senior team.”
