Versatile forwards Harley Bennell and Brennan Cox are showing just a fraction of their potential early in their Fremantle careers, according to defender Luke Ryan.

Bennell kicked a spectacular goal in the fourth term and played a crucial role in another, as Fremantle fought back from 41 points down to get within eight points.

Primarily a midfielder, the 24-year-old is playing his part in Freo's forward line as he builds from more than a year on the sidelines due to multiple calf injuries.

“Credit to Harley, he’s had a hard year but he’s come in and just transitioned beautifully,” Ryan said.

“I can’t wait to see what he does next year, he’s just so smooth and knows the game really well.

“He’s unbelievable to play with and he’s a good leader out on the field too. He’s very exciting to play alongside.”

Ryan also praised fellow first-year player Brennan Cox, who kicked a career-high two goals while pulling in three contested marks from his total of six.

A versatile key defender and forward, Cox came to Fremantle with pick no.41 and has continued to grow during his 10 games in the AFL.

“We know what Brennan can do and he showed that today,” Ryan said.

“Get a few years under his belt and he will be great, he’s building really nicely.

“He’s going to be a very exciting player for years to come, which is exactly what we want to see.”
