Ruckman Sean Darcy says he’s looking forward to the intensity of playing in the WAFL finals series but isn’t taking his spot in the starting 22 for granted.

Peel’s finals series commences on Saturday with a qualifying final against South Fremantle at Fremantle Oval.

Eighteen Fremantle players are eligible to play for Peel in the finals, however the Thunder can only field a maximum of 15 Fremantle listed players in any game.

Darcy is one of three ruckmen in that group, alongside Jon Griffin and ruck prospect Luke Strnadica.

While Darcy sat out last week due to suspension, the 19-year-old's fellow rucks impressed. Griffin kicked two goals against Essendon and Strnadica dominated the ruck against South Fremantle.

Strnadica’s 48 hitouts was his second highest of the season after collecting 51 hitouts against Perth in round 21.

“There’s always competition for spots but it’s a pretty good situation to be in,” Darcy said.

“Luke came off 48 hitouts on the weekend and Jonny played well in the AFL last week, so it’s a pretty hard and competitive group.

“Luke’s developed a lot this year, so it’s great for him to get into that number one ruck spot (for Peel) and show everyone what he can do.”

Six Fremantle listed players faced the Bulldogs last week and took a lot from the 34-point loss, according to Darcy.

“They want to beat them. (South Fremantle) are a good side and they move the ball well,” Darcy said.

Wearing Fremantle’s no.4, Darcy is flanked by the retiring Zac Dawson, no.3, and Garrick Ibbotson, no.5, in the change rooms.

Darcy said he was motivated to play finals footy, especially alongside Dawson and Ibbotson.

“I sit next to both of them in my locker, so I’m pretty close to Zac and Garrick,” Darcy said.

“We’ll do a lot for them to send them off the right way.

“Finals footy is always harder and tougher footy, so it’s going to be very important to get that experience.

“I played finals when I was younger in juniors and it’s the best part of the year. I can’t wait for it.”
