Fremantle may hold the second pick heading into the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft but the club also comes second in another key draft metric for 2017.

In 2015, the AFL introduced a draft points index to quantify the value of every draft pick – allowing for a clearer movement of draft picks for father-son selections and academy picks.

According to the index, Brisbane’s pick no.1 is worth 3000 points, while Fremantle’s pick no.2 is worth 2,517 points.

Every pick down to pick no.73 is assigned a value - holding a seemingly small nine points when compared to the top pick.

Heading into the draft, Fremantle has one of the strongest draft hands in the club’s history, with picks 2, 5, 42, 60, 66 and 71 - all of some value in the AFL’s draft points index.

The Herald Sun calculated the value of every clubs’ picks, with Fremantle’s total draft value in 2017 totalling 5045 points – the second most for the league.

Brisbane sit on top with 6134 points, holding picks no.1, 15, 18, 40 44 and 52.

Essendon have the fewest draft points at 371, holding picks 48 and 67 heading into the draft.
