Port Adelaide defeated Fremantle 16.14 (110) to 9.6 (60) at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

Freo fielded two round one debutants in Andrew Brayshaw and Bailey Banfield, while new recruits Brandon Matera and Nathan Wilson fitted in well with a goal each.

High-profile Power recruits Jack Watts (three goals), Tom Rockliff (one) and Steven Motlop (two) all hit the scoreboard, but just as encouraging for Port was the four-goal game by 19-year-old key forward Todd Marshall.

However, it wasn't all good news for the Power with All Australian ruckman Paddy Ryder out of the game early with an Achilles injury to his left leg.

With Ryder out, veteran Freo Docker Aaron Sandilands dominated the ruck to the benefit of Lachie Neale, the leading possession winner on the ground with 38 touches.

Key defender Alex Pearce – playing his first game in 672 days after complications with a broken leg - kept Power spearhead Charlie Dixon in check. Senior leaders Nat Fyfe (22 disposals) and Sandilands (52 hitouts) were among Freo’s strongest performers.

Brayshaw – last year's No.2 overall draft pick – had some nice touches in his 12 disposals, while the rookie-listed Banfield (12 disposals) worked hard as a defensive forward.

The Power led by 39 points midway through the second quarter, but Fremantle responded with three quick goals to narrow the margin to 21 points at the main break.

That's as close as Fremantle would come as Port Adelaide booted six goals to two in the third term to lead by 46 points at the last change.

The Power will welcome back the suspended Robbie Gray for next Sunday's clash with Sydney at the SCG.

Fremantle head home for a Saturday night clash with Essendon at Optus Stadium, in what will be Freo’s first AFL game at the ground.
