Fremantle Dockers fans will be bathed in purple light for the club’s debut at WA’s new home of football against Essendon on Saturday night, as reported in Wednesday's edition of The West Australian

And The West Australian can reveal that the Fremantle Dockers’ new, improved pre-game entertainment will be driven by a soundtrack featuring rock classics Thunderstruck by AC/DC and Prince’s Purple Rain.

A third track to be featured during the 40-minute pre-game entertainment at Optus Stadium will be revealed on Friday on the club’s new mobile app, which was launched yesterday.

Fireworks will be launched from the middle of the ground and a prominent former Freo Docker will take a first, symbolic shot on goal, an initiative that will continue.

Victory over the Bombers would be celebrated with the familiar AC/DC hit TNT.

Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich said the Fremantle players would wear a commemorative jumper.

“Firstly, it’s historic,” Mr Rosich said to The West Australian, adding the Freo Dockers would run on to the ground first for every home match.

“It’s our first AFL game at the new stadium and something that as a footy club and a membership group we’ve been looking forward to for some time.“We’re lucky enough to have four of our first six games at home and while we’re looking to make an impression on the field, we’re also looking to make an impression off the field with a new and enhanced match-day entertainment program.

“It will showcase the excellent audio and video systems available at Optus Stadium and we’re looking forward to unveiling it for the first time on Saturday. Our colour will be prominent and our focus has been on an engaging and entertaining format.”

Fremantle’s No.1 ticketholder Richard Walley recorded a special daybreak smoke blessing yesterday, which will be played as part of the pre-match entertainment, which starts at 4.30pm.

Unlike West Coast, who used a giant inflatable eagle to welcome players on to the field, Fremantle will run through a traditional football banner.

“We are continuing with the tradition of the banner,” Mr Rosich said.

“We think it is a symbolic tradition within the AFL.”
