Harley Bennell has pulled up well following his return to training on Tuesday at Victor George Kailis Oval, according to high performance manager Jason Weber.

The midfielder missed the start of the 2018 season due to a grade one tear in an area of his left calf unrelated to his previous calf injuries.

Bennell was on the training track for approximately 75 per cent of Tuesday’s training session.

“Harley got up and going,” Weber said.

“It was his first session back in with the team today and he was able to get the most out of it.

“We look forward to seeing him train again later in the week.”

Weber confirmed that Bradley Hill was set to spend at least another week on the sidelines.

The midfielder injured his knee in round two against Essendon and has since continued to be hampered by the injury.

“Bradley’s knee was a near miss for him two weeks ago,” Weber said.

“He’s progressed slowly. He wasn’t able to train with the team this morning so he’ll be another week.”

In a promising sign from Freo’s younger ranks, rookie Stefan Giro returned to training with the main group after sustaining a knee injury during a pre-season game for Peel in March.

“Stefan is coming in off a medial knee injury from a couple of weeks ago,” Weber said.

“He trained with the team today, at about 75 per cent. He was very strong and we’re looking forward to that progressing quickly from here.”

Weber also provided an update on injured defender Griffin Logue, who has moved up from running on a reduced bodyweight treadmill to regular running.

“Griffin’s had a complex foot injury,” Weber said.

“He’s got to on ground running now and he’s moving along well. Hopefully, we’ll see him continue on this path toward returning to football.”

Fellow defender Lee Spurr is also advancing in his recovery.

“Lee’s recovering from a complicated knee bruising,” Weber said.

“He’s been able to get up and running today and ran really strongly. We should see a good progression forward from here.”

Weber remains positive about Brady Grey’s progress, with Fremantle being cautious with the forward’s return.

“Brady had a low-grade hamstring injury but he had a bit of history from last year,” Weber said.

“He’s working on his rehab program and producing some good strength and speed so we’ll see him continue to work on his KPIs.”
