Fremantle’s resounding 54-point win against the Bulldogs on Saturday came down to the team executing their hard work at training, according to Adam Cerra.

The first-year player said Fremantle had seen improvement from a focus on more effective ball movement and limiting turnovers.

Freo scored 72 points from turnovers and conceded just 39, with the 33-point differential the second best in round five so far.

“It was our ball movement, not kicking to their plus ones and working our way around the contest and coming inside,” Cerra said.

“It’s been one big focus for the club in the past few weeks so it’s really good to see that come out on gameday.

“It was a really good win and it’s good to see what we do on the track come out when it matters.”

Drafted as a midfielder, Cerra spent most of his time at half-forward, collecting 15 disposals – five more than his previous best – taking five marks and kicking two goals.

The no.5 pick was also one of Freo’s major contributors in pressure acts (24) and score involvements (8).

“It’s always good to score. I was just finishing off the good work up the field really but it’s nice to get a couple,” Cerra said.

“I’m still learning my role and practicing and executing to the best of my ability and I can’t wait to play more.”

The stakes couldn’t be any higher this early in the season for Fremantle in round six, coming up against local rivals West Coast in the first Western Derby at Optus Stadium.

With a 3-2 record, Fremantle will be gunning to join the Eagles on four wins while maintaining their perfect record at the new home of WA footy.

“The win gives us a lot of confidence going into next week with the derby, that will be a great game,” Cerra said.

“It’s going to be a big crowd with a huge buildup. Hopefully, it’s a ripping game and we get the win.”
