Fremantle rookie Stefan Giro feels fully recovered from a pre-season knee injury and is raring to go for Peel against Subiaco on Saturday at Rushton Park.

The speedy midfielder injured his right knee against Subiaco in a pre-season game in March but recovered in time for the Thunder’s fourth game of the season.

“The knee’s really good, there’s no pain at the moment so I’m tracking along nicely,” Giro said.

“Hopefully, it will stay that way. I worked reasonably hard in rehab. I did plenty of work in the gym, cross training and weights so I guess I’m not exactly surprised.

“It’s good to get back on time and on track.” 

The 19-year-old goes into the clash with two WAFL games under his belt, collecting 15 disposals in his return against East Perth and another 25 against Claremont.

“The first game was a bit edgy against East Perth but it was good to get out there and play with the boys,” Giro said.

“The week after against Claremont, I felt a lot more comfortable.”

Peel’s Fremantle-listed players are coming off a break following the State League game between the WAFL and SANFL last Saturday at Adelaide Oval.

The WAFL ran out 26-point winners against Giro’s former league, where he represented Norwood.

Giro’s expecting a tough test in what is a replay of the past two WAFL grand finals.

“The standard’s pretty similar, there’s not much difference between the WAFL and SANFL, I’ve adjusted well I think,” Giro said.

“It should be a hard game against Subiaco but I think the boys will be up to the challenge.

“Peel’s had the edge in the past two grand finals so hopefully, we get the win.”

Giro arrived at Fremantle as one of 10 new players taken during the national and rookie drafts.

Four of these players have since gone on to make their debut with Giro hoping his chance isn’t too far away.

“I’m proud of the boys, they’re doing really well and have stepped up to the level really well.” Giro said.

“Hopefully, I can get my chance and do the same. 

“There’s a lot to work on. I’ve just got to take the feedback and try and improve.”
