Tommy Sheridan contributed two goals to Fremantle’s three-point win against Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Sunday, but his first will last long in the memory.

Sheridan’s stunning effort in the opening term started with some impressive forward movement from Freo on the wing.

After getting a handball from Michael Walters, Sheridan sent one home on the run from the 50m line on the boundary.

Talking post-game, Sheridan said he’d already seen a replay after his phone lit up with messages about it.

“I’ve actually just seen it as I got tagged in it by a few mates on Instagram,” Sheridan said.

“I was tackled and my jocks nearly came off, so I’ve pulled them back on while on the wing.

“Then I ran down the sidelines and snagged one from the pie stand. I think it was a bit of a fluke but I’m happy with it.”

While pleased to add two goals to Freo’s winning total, Sheridan was thrilled with the contribution of 19-year-old forward Brennan Cox.

Cox kicked four goals, a career high for the developing key position player in his 16th game.

“To see the big fella come good today and to also see everyone else play their role and continue to grow, it’s fantastic.,” Sheridan said.

“It’s especially so with Nat (Fyfe) out and ‘Sandi’ (Aaron Sandilands) as well and also the Hill brothers. There’s a few to come in as well.”

Sheridan said Fremantle fans could get excited with what Cox can bring to the team.

“I’m good mates with Coxy and he’s been working hard on his marking and his goalkicking,” Sheridan said.

“He brings that energy up forward, so if he can just keep popping around the forward line, and we’ve just seen a glimpse today, so I think the future’s quite bright up front with him and Scotty Jones, Mick Apeness and all the smalls at their feet.”

Sheridan also paid tribute to 18-year-old Adam Cerra, who shone in a career-best performance.

The 2017 no.5 draft pick collected 30 disposals with 12 contested possessions, as well as six marks, four tackles and eight inside 50s.

“He went to half-back he’s shown why we’ve given him the nickname ‘Rolls Royce’,” Sheridan said.

“He came good today. He’s just so smooth out of half back and another impressive young player.

“I’m quite proud to watch these blokes stand up on the big stage. It’s fantastic.”
