Form-line

Freo: Won 11 Lost 7 (9th) - W L W W L W W L L L W L L W W W W W
Adelaide: Won 14 Lost 4 (2nd) - W W L W W W W W L W W L W W W W L W

The selection table

Freo - Luke McPharlin is out because of suspension, meaning Peter Faulks, Alex Silvagni and Antoni Grover will battle it out to replace him in defence. Faulks has the recent WAFL form on the board but is listed as a test on the injury list. Nick Lower is closing in on an AFL return after sitting out recent weeks with concussion, while Cam Sutcliffe, Lachie Neale and Nick Suban will all come under consideration.

Adelaide - The Crows will test Kurt Tippett later this week after the star forward has missed the past two games because of multiple concussions. Jason Porplyzia is also listed as test despite being subbed out of the game against Essendon.

Who’s hot

Freo - Matthew Pavlich: If eight goals in the pressure-cooker atmosphere of a Carlton Mid Derby doesn’t count as hot form, then nothing does. The Freo skipper now has 43 from his past nine and leads the Coleman Medal.

Adelaide - Patrick Dangerfield: His explosive speed and sublime skill kept the Crows in the game against Essendon last week. A genuine Brownlow Medal chance, Dangerfield cannot be allowed to roam free on Saturday.

X-Factor

Freo - Stephen Hill: If Adelaide relies on Patrick Dangerfield for many of its attacking raids, then Fremantle’s go-to man is the exciting Stephen Hill. He was close to best-on-ground the last time Freo defeated Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in round 3, 2011.

Adelaide - Rory Sloane: If the round 10 match between these two sides is any indication, Sloane is the man Freo must stop. He torched the team in purple at Patersons Stadium in a standout, best-on-ground display of 33 possessions and three goals. Could Ryan Crowley be headed his way?

Key match-ups

Ryan Crowley’s tag on ?: Just who Ross Lyon decides to send the human glove to won’t be known until Saturday. Dangerfield poses the most danger, pardon the pun, but may be too quick for Crowley. A match-up against the round 10 match-winner Rory Sloane or Crows hard-man Scott Thompson looks more likely.

Jon Griffin v Sam Jacobs:
Jacobs leads the AFL for hitouts to advantage, meaning Griffin will face another huge test against an elite big man. He’s proven he’s up to the task with a great effort in the Derby against Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui. Griffin will again rely on a bit of help from Kepler Bradley.

Matthew Pavlich v Ben Rutten - These two veterans have locked horns before and might do so again on Saturday. Rutten is a brilliant defender but he will rely on his midfield to limit the amount of forward 50 entries Freo has, or else Pavlich may continue on his merry way.

Toyota AFL Dream Team

Freo - Michael Barlow: Right from his debut in round 1, 2010, when he had 33 touches and two goals, Michael Barlow has enjoyed playing against Adelaide. He averages 124 DT points per game in three contests against the Crows.

Adelaide: Scott Thompson: A 111 DT average per game over his past four against Fremantle is impressive numbers for the inspirational Adelaide midfielder.
