Fremantle’s Stephen Hill has all but passed the final hurdle to make his return to AFL football, getting through Friday’s training session at Optus Stadium unscathed.

The running midfielder missed the past two weeks with a quad injury and will return to face North Melbourne at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

“I’ve pulled up fine, I got through well and I’m ready to go on Sunday,” Hill said following Friday’s training session.

“Last week I couldn’t really get through my running and kicking but I got through training this week and I’m feeling a lot better.

“I’m excited to be back. Obviously, I missed the two games and I’m ready to go now and feeling good.”

With intermittent rain all through the 90-minute session, Fremantle were able to hone their ball skills ahead of what is anticipated to be a wet weather clash.

“It was a little bit wet but it wasn’t too bad. It was a bit windy but the boys trained well,” Hill said.

“It’s going to be wet (on Sunday). It’s good to have the conditions to train in but whatever it is, we’ll be ready to play.”

Hill is hopeful Fremantle can deliver on the field following a promising session.

“There’s been a few focuses, using the ball a lot better and not just kicking it long all the time,” Hill said.

“That was a focus, just using the ball better at training and hopefully we can take that into the game and see how we go.”

The game will be Hill’s 197th at AFL level. Barring any further setbacks he is due to play his 200th in round 13 against Carlton at Etihad Stadium.

“Hopefully, I can keep going and reach my 200th game which will be exciting,” Hill said.
