The Victor George Kailis Oval at Cockburn ARC was filled with more than 260 kids on Wednesday for the club’s 'Welcome to Freo' Gala Day.

The Welcome to Freo program engages upper primary school students to educate them in not only football skills but also about making informed decisions for a responsible, healthy and active lifestyle.

First year player Tom North said he thoroughly enjoyed being involved in the program.

I’ve been going around with some of the other players to the groups and having a lot of fun with the kids and teaching them some skills,” North said.

“Most importantly I’m making sure they are having fun and staying involved.”

North, along with other first year players and Brady Grey has visited more than 400 students throughout the season.

“We’ve been going to schools and running clinics and teaching students some footy skills,” North said.

“I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s great to have a positive influence on the kids.”
