Aaron Sandilands will be given until as late as Saturday to prove himself fit for Sunday’s clash with Collingwood at Domain Stadium, according to senior coach Ross Lyon.

Sandilands missed Freo’s round 10 loss to Adelaide with a hamstring injury and has been listed as a test alongside Ed Langdon for the weekend.

“(Aaron) needs to hit the KPIs that a combination of our doctor, physio and strength and conditioning require,” Lyon said.

“It’s a strengthening issue but he’s coming on in leaps and bounds, so we’re optimistic.”

Sandilands didn’t train with the side on Wednesday, however Lyon noted that this is normally the case for the 34-year-old.

Lyon also added that it’s likely Sandilands will be named among Fremantle’s squad of 25 players on Thursday afternoon.

“He won’t do anything today (Wednesday) normally, so there’s no measure there,” Lyon said.

“But we’ll get to the end of the week and have a good look at it on Friday.

“We’ll give him every chance, if that means maybe having a look around Saturday, that’s what we’ll do.

“More than likely we’ll name him tomorrow night. It’s difficult for Sunday games as you have to put in a squad (of 25) but we all work within the same confines.”

Lyon said he was confident Langdon would be ready to face the Magpies.

“Ed did a little bit yesterday (Tuesday). We’re really confident in him,” Lyon said.

“Clearly, there were enough performances that weren’t up to scratch (against Adelaide) that allows Ed to come back in, so it was really important that we looked after him.”

“He should be able to give us some real run and zip because that’s what he brings to the table. He’s a very similar runner to Bradley Hill, so on the vast expanses of Domain it really helps you.”

With Peel Thunder having a bye last weekend, Fremantle flew three emergencies to Adelaide in new draftees Sean Darcy and Luke Ryan as well as Tommy Sheridan.

Lyon said that all three are pushing for selection, with Darcy and Ryan looking to make their AFL debuts.

“They’ve got a bit of work to do yet and Tommy Sheridan has played really well down in Peel as well,” Lyon said.

“We travelled Sean and Luke, which is a bit of a tell that they’re around the mark, so we’ve got a fair bit to work through.

“Really no-ones safe because it’s a performance business.

“We’ve been getting some positive stuff because we’ve been performing at a high level but on the weekend we didn’t’ get that done.

“We need to pick a team and reward people who have been pushing up to make sure we keep that integrity around selection which is really important for us.”
