Starlight Purple Haze spirit spread to the Peel region on Sunday morning when the Mandurah Bowling Club hosted a brunch to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

The sold out event raised more than $9000 for the foundation and was an initiative of the Sirens, a ladies only membership group of the Fremantle Dockers.

Alex SilvagniHayden Ballantyne and Michael Barlow made the trip to Mandurah to help support the cause.

Silvagni, who is an ambassador for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, said it was fantastic to see such a great turnout.

“There were more than 250 people in the room, it’s good to see the generosity extends all the way through to Mandurah from Fremantle, and I’m sure probably even further,” Silvagni said.

“Diane Meakins from the Sirens has done such a great job pulling this event together.”

All the funds raised from the event will go directly to the Starlight Children’s Foundation and towards the club's 2015 Starlight Purple Haze total.

“The Purple Haze game is so important to the club, this event has raised a great amount of money and hopefully everyone else can get on board and raise as much money as they can,” Silvagni said.

“When I go to PMH and visit the Starlight Express Room it’s fantastic to see the smiles on the children’s face and it’s events like this that make it happen.”

Local superstar Hayden Ballantyne said it was good to see the people of Mandurah getting out and helping raise funds for a great foundation.

“If other rural towns get on board it’s a great way to spread the Starlight spirit,” Ballantyne said.

“When you have kids, you want to see every kid as healthy as they can be.

“The money raised from this event will go towards that, so I’m just here with Mick and Alex and we are doing our bit as best we can."
