Senior coach Ross Lyon said Fremantle is lucky to have deep ruck stocks with experienced tall Jon Griffin waiting in the wings.

Speaking to 6PR on Monday night, Lyon said Griffin, who has starred for Peel Thunder in the WAFL this year, would get his chance to play senior football this year.

Four-time All Australian Aaron Sandilands and Zac Clarke have played every game this season but Fremantle is spoilt for choice with a ready-made AFL player in Griffin a perfect replacement, should injury, suspension or a form slump strike.

Griffin has played 69 AFL games for Fremantle and Adelaide and, along with Sandilands, re-signed with the club this week.

“I really rate Jon,” Lyon said.

Griff learning from the best in the business

“He’s in really good form, we know he’s a number one ruckman like Clarke.”

Lyon said Griffin had a tough 2014 after recovering from an ACL but would get a chance to play AFL again this year.

“We love having him on our list,” he said.

“Aaron is pretty unique but he’s not going on forever.

“I have great faith in Jon, they’re hard to find really good ruckman.”
