Biggest AFL tribunal in eight years

Perth’s biggest tribunal hearing in eight years will tonight determine whether Alex Silvagni can play again this year and if Chris Masten’s reputation is in tatters.

The AFL match review panel yesterday sent both players directly to the tribunal after a dramatic western derby.

The panel charged Fremantle defender Silvagni with striking Jamie Cripps in the second term and West Coast’s Masten with misconduct in that he bit Nick Suban during the third quarter.

Fyfe blames Mitchell knee for groin injury

Brownlow Medal favourite Nat Fyfe said the cork he received to his right thigh from an errant Sam Mitchell knee in round 15 was a major contributor to his groin injury, which kept him sidelined for two weeks.

“The corkie had a pretty significant influence,” Fyfe said.

FREMANTLE’S Alex Silvagni and West Coast’s Chris Masten are facing lenghty bans after both were sent straight to the tribunal over separate incidents from Sunday’s spiteful derby clash.

Silvagni was reported for his crude hit on West Coast forward Jamie Cripps in the second quarter of the Eagles’ 24-point win at Subiaco.

Eagles midfielder Chris Masten was charged with misconduct after he was investigated over claims he bit opponent Nick Suban.
