Fremantle has delisted Anthony Morabito from the main list but the club has committed to re-drafting him as a rookie.

Morabito has played just 26 games due to several serious knee injuries since he was selected at pick 4 in the 2009 National Draft.

Minor knee surgery in January kept the luckless midfielder sidelined in 2015.

Fremantle general manager of player management Brad Lloyd said the club and Morabito, who turned 24 on Thursday, had discussed his future in recent weeks.

“We want to retain Anthony on our playing list,” Lloyd said.

“Anthony has had a challenging time with injury but we still think he has a lot to offer our playing list.

“It was a decision reached mutually with Anthony.”

Morabito played three AFL games in 2014 after fighting his way back into the side after three major knee injuries.

Along with Morabito, the club has also committed to selecting Josh Deluca in the Rookie Draft on Friday 27 November, after the 19-year-old was delisted earlier this month.

Fremantle has upgraded Ethan Hughes onto the senior list, after a promising 2015 season that included his AFL debut.

“Ethan really advanced well last year playing for Peel and deserves a place on the primary list next year,” Lloyd said.

“He is a good size and a good athlete, and showed his potential at the elite level in his debut against Port Adelaide in round 23.”

Tanner Smith will be retained on the rookie list
