It seems Fox Footy’s ‘On the Couch’ experts have devoted a weekly segment to praising Fremantle’s rise to genuine contender.

A few weeks ago, Mike Sheahan revealed his ’10 things you didn’t know about Fremantle’.

Last night, it was Gerard Healy and premiership coach Paul Roos talking up Ross Lyon’s third-placed side.

Healy lauded the recent form of young midfielder Lachie Neale, who has averaged 26.8 disposals at 80.6 per cent efficiency, 10.2 contested possessions, 16.6 uncontested possessions and 1.2 goals per game in the past month.

“He’s had to work pretty hard to get his spot in the side,” Healy said.

“That is a kid who is not going to let his spot go, despite the fact he could be riding a horse for Leigh Matthews at Caulfield on the weekend.”

Paul Roos said Fremantle’s strength lay in its depth, which he said was the most important factor in winning premierships.

“They haven’t got bad players, and I always feel that it’s the 15 to 22 that determine the outcome of grand finals,” he said.

“The better players cancel each other out, it’s the 15th to 22nd player, and that’s where the Dockers have really improved.”

Roos also suggested Fremantle use Luke McPharlin as a sub this week if he was ready to return from injury.
