Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says there are plenty of young players training the house down to get a spot in his 2015 Freo team.
New recruit Connor Blakely is in the mix for a debut after being named in the preliminary TAB 22 squad and Lyon has been impressed with how he has gone about his footy since arriving at the club.
Blakely's impressive start at Freo
“He's in the 25,” Lyon said.
“He has done a fair bit right - he'll need a bit to go his way but he has certainly put some pressure on.
“He's done quite well to be in the 25.”
With a spot available through Ryan Crowley’s absence, Lyon said it has opened up the door for somebody else.
“Yes Ryan’s not there, but the beauty of that is the real upside and opportunity,” Lyon said.
“I don’t see anyone in the 25 really upset that there’s a few that have taken his (Crowley’s) spot.
“That’s the jungle we live in. Adversity creates opportunity and it’s a brutal industry.”
“We’ve got young, hungry players ready to step up, and I’m really thrilled about that.
“Maybe Connor Blakely gets a spot because Ryan Crowley’s out – who knows?”
Fremantle will name its final TAB 22 at 3.25pm today via fremantlefc.com.au.
Freo takes on Port Adelaide at Domain Stadium on Easter Sunday, 5 April.

It will also be the club’s annual Starlight Purple Haze game supported by Fremantle Ports, for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
