Many AFL analysts are commenting about a more attack-minded Fremantle Dockers in 2014, but midfielder David Mundy says the team is not doing anything drastically different compared to 2013.

Fox Footy’s commentary team in last Saturday night’s win over Gold Coast noted that Ross Lyon’s side was kicking more than handballing this season and was playing on more often after marks.

Mundy said the club had not made it a focus to do either of those.

“We know that we want to be a little bit better with the ball in hand, a bit more attacking and score more efficiently, so it may be the by-product of that, but it’s not a focus to kick more or play on more,” he said.

The statistics back Mundy up. In 2013 the club averaged 215 kicks and 147 handballs per game, with a mark-play on percentage of 31.1.

After two matches in 2014, Fremantle is averaging 213 kicks and 147 handballs, and playing on after marks 31.7 per cent of the time.

Ahead of Friday night’s clash with the club’s 2013 AFL Grand Final conqueror Hawthorn, Mundy reiterated Lyon’s message that the game was not about revenge.

Match Preview: Fremantle v Hawthorn

“We’ve moved on,” he said.

“We’re in a new season, it’s a new game. It’s just about the four points.

“It’s obviously going to be a great challenge, they’re a great side, and they’ve proved that time and time again.

“But we’re more than confident that our game plan stands up when we bring it to life.”

A major factor in that game plan this season has been ruckman Aaron Sandilands.

Mundy glad to have AFL's 'best ruckman' on his side

The three-time All Australian has been in dominant form, including a staggering 21 hitouts to his midfielders’ advantage against the Suns.

“I’ve said it before, Aaron is the best ruckman in the competition, bar none,” Mundy said.

“When he gives service like that, we can definitely capitalise.”
