There were smiles from ear to ear at club headquarters on Tuesday as Fremantle’s Starlight ambassadors joined Starlight Wish kids for a ‘Laughternoon’.

Aaron Sandilands, Chris Mayne, Garrick Ibbotson, Alex Silvagni, Matt de Boer and the club’s newest ambassador for the children’s charity, Lachie Neale, entertained the youngsters in attendance.

Silvagni enjoyed a game of fussball with one of the children, while Ibbotson was all over the Jenga blocks.

After getting his face painted purple, ‘king of the kids’ Mayne picked up a guitar and began to rock.

No, ‘Mayney’ has not uncovered a hidden musical talent – it was Guitar Hero on the PlayStation 3.

The kids joined him on the drums and jammed to Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’.

Without a doubt, the most curious looks were directed at the 211cm Sandilands, who towered over the children.

But the Freo giant’s heart matches his huge frame, and he spent most of the session crouched down low to be on the same level as his new friends.

“They’re a great bunch of kids and it’s nice to spend a bit of time with them,” Sandilands said.

“A fair few of them will come to the game on the weekend, so it’s an exciting time for them.”

Sandilands, who has been an ambassador for more than a decade, said Starlight was a great charity and that it was a privilege for the club to be involved with them.

“It’s been going for a long time now so, hopefully, we’ll see a lot of purple at the game and people can put their hands in their pockets and donate because it’s a great cause,” he said.

The annual Starlight Purple Haze Game, proudly supported by Fremantle Ports, will take place at Patersons Stadium on Saturday 29 March against the Gold Coast Suns.

Fans are encouraged to dress in as much purple as possible for the game and donate generously to the Starlight volunteers as they enter the gates.

Non-playing Fremantle players will also be rattling tins in the build up to the game to help beat last year’s fundraising record of $106,000.

The club has raised more than $600,000 since 2003 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, one of the club’s principal charity partners.
