Ross Lyon believes Fremantle’s 2013 Grand Final conqueror Hawthorn is the team to beat again.

The Hawks triumphed by 15 points in last year’s decider.

Freo beaten in Grand Final

Lyon said, due to the fact no one has played a proper game since, Alastair Clarkson’s team was the one the other 17 teams had to dethrone.

“I think we’re all chasing Hawthorn,” Lyon told afl.com.au.

The Freo senior coach said the Hawks had a strong balance of defence and attack and a successful game plan.

“I think Hawthorn had a good model, a little bit more movement around, it keeps everyone guessing a little bit,” he said.

Lyon said Fremantle, which had the best defence in the league in 2013, were continuing to work on the attacking side of the game.

“If you’re trying to be the best, you’ve got to be the best in all areas,” he said.

“Clearly, we’d like to be more productive in attack and reproduce strong defence and good clearance work.”

As for the Grand Final, don’t expect the Freo coach to entertain any more questions pertaining to the game.

“Quite simply, it’s the road behind or the road ahead, and we’re pretty keen to get stuck into the road ahead,” Lyon said.

“We all bury it, we move on. We’ve returned in really good shape.

“We checked in with our emotions, we did a mechanical review, what needed to get better, and we’ve reset ourselves.”
