After coming off a big win on Saturday night against Geelong, Michael Johnson has indicated the players will use the time off during the bye as a chance to have a mental break.

“We will go into the break really confident with the way we played on the weekend against a quality team like Geelong,” Johnson said.

“It’s a good chance for the boys to go away and mentally freshen up for the clash against the Bulldogs.”

The key defender said he felt the team were close to playing their best football again, but weren’t going to think too far ahead.

“We’re really happy with the way we played on the weekend, we need to keep on tracking and carrying on the way we have been playing as a team.,” he said.

“As players it’s the old cliché, one week at a time and we get used to that.

“It’s an even draw this year, if you’re one or two percent off you can easily lose the match.

“After this little break we’ll come back ready to take on the Bulldogs.”

Johnson said fellow defender Luke McPharlin was hoping to be back for the Indigenous round game against the Dogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday 1 June.

McPharlin injured his quad in the round seven win against West Coast.

“Luke was in good form before he went down with his injury,” Johnson said.

“He’s done all he can with his rehab over the last couple of weeks and ticked all the boxes.

“I think this break will help him, it will be good to have the old boy back.”
