Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says his only focus ahead of Friday night’s match against Essendon is to prepare his team, not outside events surrounding the game.

The Bombers are currently under a severe media barrage after allegations yesterday by former club sports scientist Stephen Dank that senior coach James Hird had injected a WADA-blacklisted drug.

Essendon are already the subject of an ASADA investigation into their 2012 supplements program, and will soon be made aware of the findings of a Ziggy Switkowski review they commissioned.

Lyon acknowledged Friday’s opponents had handled their situation very well, but that was as far as his interest ran concerning theissues they face.

“I’m here about Fremantle and the game,” he said.

“We all understand there’s a serious issue being investigated, but from my position you leave it to the correct authorities and wait on the outcomes.

“My role is to coach the Fremantle Football Club and focus on us, and when that ball is bounced, have the team ready to play.”

Lyon said he understood the scrutiny and difficulty Hird faced, but ultimately, winning a game of football for Fremantle had to be his sole focus.

“At the end of the day I don’t have the luxury to be worrying about everything outside of this football club, it’s not my role,” he said.

“It’s not what I’m employed to do.

“I’m employed to manage a team of coaches and players, and prepare them to play in a manner that our members will be proud of, that’s my focus.”
