As Fremantle prepares to launch its assault on the 2013 premiership, Matthew Pavlich has warned against looking too far ahead.

Freo equaled its highest ever ladder position with a third place finish this season.

The 16 wins (and one draw) were the most the club has ever had in a home and away season.

The winner of Saturday’s clash with Geelong at Simonds Stadium will earn a home preliminary final in a fortnight, but Pavlich said thinking about consequences was fraught with danger.

“Focusing on consequences and outcomes and results only gets you clouded in your thinking,” he said.

“That’s no good.

“What we actually need to do is get rid of the consequences and the specifics of that, whether it’s a home prelim or a game here next weekend, get those out of our mind and focus on what really counts, and that’s preparing for a red-hot Cats and preparing for a really tough game on Saturday afternoon.”

Pavlich also refused to be drawn into commenting on the AFL’s decision to make Fremantle the first side to play Geelong in a final at Simonds Stadium.
Etihad Stadium in Melbourne was available to host the second versus third match.

“It is not something we have spoken about, it really isn’t,” Pavlich said.

“The players are really excited about playing a final. It is the second year in a row that we are in a final against the Cats and we are just excited about playing it.

“We could be in the middle of Australia and the guys would be up and about and ready to go, so the fact that all this external noise has been about where it’s being played hasn’t bothered the group one bit, we are just ready to rip in.”

The Freo skipper even said it was fair for Geelong to play the final on their home deck.

“We are realistic, so it is what it is,” he said.

“We are just ready to play, let’s get it on.”
