FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey has put his squad on notice in the wake of their 74-point loss to Geelong, saying they have less than two months to convince him that they deserve to stay with the club.

With two retirements already - former skipper Peter Bell during the week, and Matthew Carr earlier in the season – Harvey flagged more changes after a season that has so far produced just two wins.

"You don't like to talk about that now, but the guidance is what you do in the next seven weeks, and that forms your opinion about how many changes you either do or you don't make," he said.

"I want to see who wants to be successful as a player, and who wants to do something about the season that we've found ourselves in.

"What's been forced upon us is to play players before perhaps they're ready, and therefore that puts more pressure on senior guys who do play … I've asked more from those guys, and today there's some of the senior players that needed to lift, and to help the younger players through these situations."

Despite having the oldest list in the competition, Harvey admitted the team had missed the leadership of Bell in their first game since the three-time Doig Medallist and two-time North Melbourne premiership player retired.

"Of course you do, in facets of the game, from leadership, to direction, organisation, … he's an efficient player, Peter Bell.

"I don't want to be talking about Peter Bell on the back of his retirement, but you do (miss him).

"We've got a lot of work to do. In a lot of different areas."
