The Herald Sun’s Mark Robinson believes Matthew Pavlich’s great season should be rewarded with selection as the All Australian captain for 2012.

The Freo skipper has been in sensational form in the second half of the season, booting eight goals against West Coast in round 19, seven against GWS in round 17 and three six-goal hauls in rounds 11, 15 and Saturday’s Elimination Final against Geelong.

While his performance against the Cats does not come into calculations for the home-and-away based All Australian team, Robinson said it was “the exclamation point on a season that ranks among Pavlich’s best”.

Despite all his goals, Robinson credited Pavlich’s leadership and ability to embrace change under new senior coach Ross Lyon as the highlight of his year.

“After West Coast embarrassed them in round 8, Pavlich declared he had to be a better leader. It was a bold declaration. The best leaders don't hold back.

They accept responsibility, even welcome it,” Robinson wrote in The Herald Sun.

Robinson said Pavlich’s leadership was never more evident than against the Cats at the MCG on Saturday.

“Pavlich's leadership was immeasurable, as it has been for most of the season,” he said.

“He's a big-moment player, too. In the third quarter against the Cats, he kicked two goals when the Cats were coming, and then another in the final quarter when the Cats were believing a miracle was before them.

“He kicked 6.0 in a final at the MCG, where reputations are forged.”

Robinson finished the article by stating: “They call him Super Pav. They should also be calling him the All-Australian captain.”
