Chris Mayne says he will back his goal kicking technique for the rest of the finals, despite the normally accurate forward missing two set shots on Saturday.

Mayne booted 1.2 in the Qualifying Final win over Sydney and has kicked 27.16 this year but has missed set shots he would normally slot with ease.

“That’s life and football, mistakes happen, you have to keep working hard,” he said.

“(It was) really windy and swirly down on the ground.

“Suma (Peter Sumich) always speaks about trying to drive through the ball and not rely on what the wind is doing.

“Funny thing being a forward is you might have only three opportunities to have an impact.

“If you can take all three great.

“If you focus too much on the outcome, you can forget about the process.”

Mayne nominated

Mayne has a rigorous routine he perfected three years ago after reviewing his technique frame by frame.

“My routine has stayed the exact same as it has for the past three years,” he said.

“Throughout the year there have been a couple of little technical difficulties where I’ve always walked to the right or dropped it to the right.”

Mayne said he would spend time ahead of next Friday’s Preliminary Final practicing shots on goal.

“I like to try finish off the hard work from up the field,” he said.

“I’ll come out out here during the week and train as hard as possible to rectify the mistakes.

“I’ll keep my head down, bum up and keep working hard.

“I feel my complete game doesn’t always have to be kicking four or five.

“As long as I am playing my role and applying pressure.”
