Every AFL captain believes Fremantle will make the top eight this season, and the club is rated by the league’s skippers as one of only three sides likely to make the Grand Final, along with Hawthorn and Sydney.

So what does that count for, according to captain Matthew Pavlich? – Nothing.

The Freo legend was in Adelaide for the captains' media call as part of the AFL season launch on Wednesday.

Every year is our year: Pavlich

He said the recognition from peers was nice, but added it was worthless on the field, where all 18 clubs would start the season from the same mark.

“It guarantees us nothing, just because we were there last year,” Pavlich said.

“It would be nice if reputations and past performances counted, but as Ross (Lyon) says, they don’t.’’

Pavlich said the club had dealt with the Grand Final loss and had pushed the reset button a long time ago for 2014.

“Everyone returned in really good shape and with a really strong attitude,” he said.

“We’ve seen the majority of guys get through training and the first few games without any hiccups and we’re really excited about the opportunity.”
