As part of the club’s 20-year recognition game this Sunday against Greater Western Sydney at Patersons Stadium, several past players and their children will take part in a friendly AFL 9’s game before the main game.

The fun kicks off at 12.10pm, and fans wanting to catch all the pre-game action can enter through Patersons Stadium gates 8 and 26 from 12pm.

One past player to be pulling the boots back on this Sunday is Brad Wira.

The small defender was part of Fremantle’s inaugural team, and played 35 games for Fremantle.

He played in Fremantle’s first derby win kicking three goals in the 47-point win at Subiaco Oval.

fremantlefc.com.au caught with up Wira to see how his preparations were going leading into his return to footy.

Have you been doing anything in particular to prepare for the game?
Absolutely nothing. I played outside (the contest) during my AFL career, I will be playing very outside this weekend.

Who are you most looking forward to lining up against?
It would be great to see a couple of old teammates running around like Jason Norrish and Matthew Burton.

Who do you think is most likely to pull their hamstring?
Definitely Jason Norrish, he’s the number one candidate. He could pull his hamstring walking to the bathroom.

What’s your favourite memory from your playing days at Freo?
The first derby win, it was a historic moment for the club.

Which current Freo players do you like watching?
I like watching Hayden Ballantyne, Nat Fyfe and Aaron Sandliands.

What are your thoughts on the current Freo team?
I think they are going fantastically. Full credit to the club, they have all aspects going really well. They have the best coach and they are playing a great style. I look forward to seeing them play in another finals series.
