Fremantle’s clash with Sydney on Saturday is poised as a match up between two elite midfields.

Match preview

Both teams have a mix of experience and youth in the engine room.

Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon said the game would be “won and lost in the midfield”.

“They’re a great team, up around the best in the competition,” he said.

“Whoever gives their forwards best supply will probably come out on top.”

There is a growing rivalry between the teams, which have faced off in finals in 2013 and 2014, with the tally at one win each.

Clash of the titans

“Both teams have been in finals contention for a fair period,” Lyon said.

“It’s a strong test of football and you need stress, you need to be tested to improve, that’s really our focus.

“We come in with no excuse but we understand the calibre goes up.

“It’s going to be a really different assignment.”
